BCS Madness: Here we come!

I, like many other haters of the BCS, am praying for a victory for Oklahoma versus Texas Tech tonight. If this would happen Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma would all by tied amoung the top of the Big 12 South. Since these teams are all so even, who would play Missouri in the Big 12 championship game?

Well, they would have to go through the Big 12 rulebook tiebreakers, of course. The first they’re all tied… Same with the second, third and fourth breakers. So how would they decide? The BCS rankings of course.

Yes, the biased media and computers would decide the biggest conference championship of the year, in the division with the most heavy weights, with no conceivable difference in the teams. This is one of the many, countless reasons why the BCS should be expelled. Just make a playoff, and see the best teams play each other to find out who wins? Who wouldn’t watch a heated rematch between Texas and Texas Tech? It would be much more competitive than the last two BCS title games, as you could see early on the Big Ten teams have nothing on the SEC and Big 12 teams. Please, Mr. President-Elect Barrack Obama, do everything in your power to stop this confusion and craziness!

Well, after that opening rant, let’s get onto the picks for this week.

Oklahoma vs, Texas Tech

Of  course, after that rant you can’t expect me to pick against Oklahoma, can you? I think this will be a high scoring game, but I think that Oklahoma’s defense will stall the Red Raiders offense just enough for them to win time of possesion, and along with that, the game.

45-38, Oklahoma wins.

Michigan-Ohio State

I think I am insane. Why wouuld any one ever in a million years pick the worst Michigan team ever, versus the second place (and possibly underrated) Ohio State team? Well, here’s the scoop. Um… well… you see… It’s Just Gonna Happen I guess. Does anyone know a good mental therapist?

Bold Prediction of the week!

21-18, U of M upsets.Well, more likely 63-0, Ohio State. But its fun to dream, right?

MSU - PSU

I think that after hearing Michigan somehow had the upset of the century, the Spartans would be pumped up enough to beat Penn State, using their defense aand Javon Ringer to shut down Penn State. However, if Ohio State does blowout Michigan, somethinng tells me Penn State would be a lot more pumped, as they would get to their first Rose Bowl in forever.

I’ll maybe have a couple more picks later, but knowing me, I’ll be too lazy to do it.

Gasp!!! It can’t be… Is that really the… SPORTS KID BLOG NFL PICKS??!?!?!?

Yes, after not having posted picks since about ever, I killed the steak of not posting for the good luck of not jinxing Miami, here I am, once again. Now, in week 7 of the craziest NFL season ever, here are my picks for the week, in a different style: Instead of straight up picks, here are my picks against the spread. (Home team in caps).

Tennessee (-9) over KANSAS CITY
Let’s see: on one side of the ball you have the QB-less, RB-less, Line-less, Defense-less, all around terrible team. On the other side of the ball, you have the Rejuvenated QB, Two great RBs, and an underrated line, best D in the league team. I expect this one to be a blow out, maybe 20-point difference.

BUFFALO (-1) over San Diego
I really like the Bills this year, as they have a good young QB and RB this year, a good defense, just an all-around good team. I’m not sure if they can make the leap to ‘great’ yet, but they can diffidently beat the surprisingly 3-3 Chargers.

BENGALS (+9.5) over Pittsburgh
Think about this: who would of thought that the lackluster Rams could beat the rolling Redskins? No one. The Steelers are looking good right now, but Cinci is still looking for the first win. I don’t think that Cinci will straight up beet the Steelers, but they’ll make it pretty close.

MIAMI (-3) over Baltimore
Joe the Plumber Flacco is heading into Miami, where Da Fins are better than average at home, and have one of the leagues best D’s over the past couple of weeks. With a lot of people on the injured report for Baltimore’s Defense, look for Ronnie and crew to run right over them.

ST LOUIS (+7) over Dallas
You’re probably thinking “crazy-11-year-old-who-probably-doesn’t-even-know-sports say what?” Well I say that without Tony Romo Dallas even less like the contender they’re supposed to be, and after St.Louis riding high after their surprising win over the Redskins last week, they could make this one very close… and maybe even win.

CHICAGO (-3) over Minnesota
This one cold actually be a larger victory than you expect, will Minnesota looking really vulnerable against Detroit last week and how Kyle Orton, Matt Forte, and the rest of the Chicago offense are really starting to click.

New Orleans (+3) over CAROLINA
Do you know what ‘it’ is? You know, that little thing that teams either have or they don’t? Well, even after their impressive start, I just don’t think that the Carolina Panthers have it. On the flip side, with probably the best offense in the game with Drew Brees and Reggie playing like they are, the Saints do have ‘it.’

GIANTS (-10.5) over San Fran
I know I have already picked a couple of stunners, but this game won’t be one, with the Giants pumped to show the Niners the team they really are after their loss to the Brownies. The Niners just don’t have the Qb or Receivers to run the type of offense their coordinator, Mike Martz, wants, and that’ll hurt them in this game.

HOUSTON (-9.5) over Detroit
The lions are going to go 0-16 this year. No doubt about it. That’s all that can be said.

Jets (-3) over OAKLAND
Jett Favre throws for some amazing stats for the first part of the game, then collapses and has a heart attack in the second half, but they still hang on to beat the Raiders by 10 or more.

Cleveland (+7.5) over WASHIGTON
This could really be a great game, as the Cleveland offense finally starts to click again, and Washington’s should be much better than their showing against the Rams last week. Maybe Cleveland will win it, maybe they won’t, but it’ll be a nail biter until the end.

GREEN BAY (+1) over Indianapolis
If the Browns-Skins game isn’t the game of the week, then this one will be. You have the guy who has been one of the best (if not THE best) for years versus the young Rodgers who has surprised a lot of us this year, and will produce for years to come. Both teams have struggling defenses that should be good, so this could be a high scoring shoot out.

MNF

Denver (+3) over NEW ENGLAND
Denver’s offense will bounce back after a couple of good, but not great weeks, as Matt Cassel will be scared like its Halloween early.

Coming soon:

The return of GotW?!?!?!?!?

NLCS Preview

dodgersI shouldn’t be writing about this right now.

I should be in Chicago, cheering on the Cubs as they face their Divisional rivals in the Brewers. I should be screaming and looking back on the amazing series the Cubs just had, shutting down the Dodgers and espicially Mr. Ramirez. And then I should be watching them win this game, go to the World Series, and win it all.

One thing: The Cubs got swept.

Oh well. They’re the cubs. I think I’m ready to go on in my October life. Wait… *screams naughty words about Fukuodome’s bat and Lou’s questionable decisions* Okay, now I’m good.

Seriously now, I really like the Dodgers to win this series. One of the main reasons I think this way is Mr. Man-Ram, who, like his personality or not, is probably the best player in baseball right now. He’s slugging for the fences. He is hitting for an average. And, well, its not lie he’s stinking it up in leftfield. He is definently the dominant player in a group of teams that don’t have any stand outs.

I also feel that the Dodgers pitching is really underrated. Spearheading the rotation is Derek Lowe, how as shaky as he could be in the Regular Season, is a great October Guy. I also like the young guy, Chad Billingsley. If he can play the best he can do, he could be the next Josh Beckett.

Overall, the Dodgers are a very good Offensive team, and underrated pitching-wise. It would be very cool if the Dodgers and the Red Sox met in the World Series, with all of the story lines and such. That’s probably what will happen, check out the ALCS preview tomorrow in the same place.

GO CUBS GO, GO CUBS GO, HEY CHICAGO WHAT DO YOU SAY, THE CUBS ARE GOING TO THROW A NONO TODAY!!!

NFL Week One Preview

miami_dolphins_bgFinally, the real NFL Season is here. If you’re like me, you’ve probably been counting down the days to this day ever since the day after the amazing super bowl. You got excited at every NFl event that proved you got closer to the season, tracked all of your team’s draft picks and free agent signings, followed the team throughout the preseason to scout the offense or defense of your team. Or maybe, you’re not a NFL super fan, and you just like to watch the games. Either way, this is an awesome day for you, as it’s time to watch some football.

First though, I have decided to just preview the playoffs, and the super champion because writing a preview for all 32 teams is tough. So, here are the playoffs:

AFC Wild Card Round

Colts at Chargers

Colts win, 27-16.

After struggling in the first couple games of the season as Peyton try’s to find his groove, limping around. Finally after a loss at San Dieago in week five when their only 5-6, they run the table and make the playoffs as the team no one wants to face, and they beat the same Chargers that they last lost to.

Dolphins at Steelers

Dolphins win, 18-17.

Who would have thought that the Miami Dolphins, one week after a 1-15 season, would make the playoffs??? About .1% of all sports writers probably. Me. In my opinion, they are definently the surprise team of the year, as they do it as Chad Pennington actually connects magically to his receivers, throwing 34 TD passes and actually all 16 games for only the second time in his career, and Ricky Williams winning comeback player of the year, rushing for over 1000 yards and 16 TDs. The Steelers barely squeeze out the AFC North crown in a tough race with Cleveland, as they have identical 10-6 records but the Steelers sweep the series. The Dolphins stinky stupid pass defense shuts down Big Ben, but they have a tough time stopping Willie Parker, and they barely upset them on a last second field goal, winning by one point.

NFC Wild Card

Eagles at Seahawks

Eagles win, 35-19

Donavon McNabb actually won’t make much of an impact in this game since he is recovering from a broken finger from week 7, but it doesn’t matter. Brian Westbrook runs for 4 TDs, and returns a kick for another, as the Eagles easily put away the Seahawks.

Giants at Packers

Packers win, 13-10

A reamatch of the NFC Championship game in which Brett got his last throw as a Packer picked off in OT, as the Giants win a move on to the Super Bowl, and… you know. This time, Aaron Rodgers gets his first career playoff win, as its a defensive battle until Aaron throws the game winning td with minutes left on the clock.

Next Time: The Divisional Round.

Now, for the games.

Detroit vs Atlanta

Detroit wins, 17-10.

The lions win as Matt Ryan struggles in his first carrer game, and Lions actually run the ball for the first time since Barry Sanders.

Cincinnati vs Baltimore

Cinci wins, 35-28.

Once again, Cinci’s defense stinks, but Chad Ocho Cinco catches a few catches as the bengals run away with this one.

Seattle vs Buffalo

Seattle wins, 21-13

Matt Hasselback becomes a great QB again, as he gets a couple of scores as they beat out another potential playoff team.

NY Jets vs Dolphins

New York wins, 28-24.

Like I said before, Brett Favre is going to be a really good QB this year, as it shows as Chad gets picked a couple of times as Brett throws TDs.

Kansas City at New England

NE barely wins, 21-20.

Boys and girls, this game comes thisclose to being a fantastic upset as Tom Brady hobbles around, but he somehow manages to throw to Moss as the chiefs falter.

Tampa Bay at New Orleans

Saints win, 24-21

This is a really good candidate for GotW, as Drew Brees and Jeff Garcia battle it out, but in the end, Reggie Bush pulls through with a game clinching TD.

St. Louis vs Phili

Philadelphia wins, 16-13 (OT)

This also will be a candidate for GotW, as Phili barely wins as their offense starts out slow but ends strong. STL’s offense finially looks like how it should be with all the big names there, but they don’t come out in the end.

Houston at Pittsburgh

Houston wins, 21-18.

This could very well be the upset of the week, as Mario and crew shut down Big Ben. Houstons offense and Matt Schaub also click, as he passes for a TD or two.

Jacksonville vs Titans

Jacksonville wins, 24-16

Another game in a week of evenly matched teams that could be the GotW. The Jags running game and good D puts Vinnie Young and team down.

Carolina at San Diego

Chargers wins, 17-3

LT rushes for a couple of scores, the Chargers defense dominates and the Bolts easily win.

Arizona at San Fran

Tie!!! 14-14

Call me crazy. Call me weird. For the first time since 2001, two teams are so evenly matched they tie. The QBs both don’t do well, and in OT they can’t muster anything, leaving it a tie.

Chicago at Indianapolis

Chicago Wins, 17-14

As I said earilier, Peyton struggles early in the season and the Bears defense returns to its 2006 form, as the bears win.

Quickie Preview: Michigan vs. Miami OH Game

I am going to be going to the big house for the first time ever, and I expect to actually see a pretty good game. Expect Michigan to barely squeak out a victory in a close game, maybe 20-17. Michigans offense still has some growing pains, and Miami is underrated.

That would still make my dad happy though, because the spread is 14 1/2 points, and his bro is in Vegas.

Williams vs. Williams

It’s one of the most heated, and lighthearted rivalries in sports. It includes two powerhouses who have combined to win many championships over the years. When you see this game, you don’t know who’s going to come through in the end. No, it’s not Boston-New York or Duke-North Carolina, it’s Venus vs. Serena. Sister vs. Sister.

That’s right, those two are playing each other in the finals. So, how did they get here? Very much the same, actually.

In the first set, both of them cruised right by their competition, (Elena Dementieva for Venus and Zheng Jie for Serena) getting every bounce and hitting every shot. But, in the second set, their competition started being competitive again, both of the sets going into a tiebreaker after tying at six. But in the end, both of them won the tiebreak pretty quickly, and set up the aforementioned match up in the finals. So who’ll win this one?

I think that its going to be a very well played game on both sides on the net, both of them probably winning a set. But in the end, Serena will probably come out in the end, beating Venus for the sixth straight time in a Grand Slam final. She has overall played a little better than Venus, and hold the slight advantage all time. But Venus has done better at Wimbledon, so who knows? Just don’t forget the popcorn.

The NBA Finals: The Perfect Matchup

2802902_550x550_mb_art_r0Yes, I am a huge Pistons/Bulls (Pistons from Dad, Bulls from Mommy) fan, but I got to admit this was the NBA Finals match up I was hoping for. I mean, seriously. Who wouldn’t love to see a match up like this? You got Batman (Kobe) and his powerful sidekick, Robin (Pau Gasol) facing off against the C-Men (KG, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce.) So, in the spirit of match ups, let’s look at all the match ups in this intense match up.

Super Star

Boston’s Kevin Garnett vs. LA’s Kobe Bryant

Kevin Garnett can by dominating at times, but in the clutch, sometimes he just fades away. Kobe, on the other hand, can dominate a game from start to finish, or turn it on in the 4th.

Winner: Lakers

Big Man

Boston’s KG vs. LA’s Pau Gasol

Pau Gasol has transformed this Lakers team, but KG made the Celtics. Without him, the Celtics would definitely be sitting at home after a mediocre team.

Winner: Celtics

Coaching Staff

Hmm… A guy with 9 total NBA championships, or a guy a lot of people think the Celtics won in spite of, not because of? This is a no-brainer.

Huge Winner: Lakers

X-Factor

Rajon Rondo vs. Lamar Odom

In my opinion, if Rajon doesn’t play well, then the Celtics don’t do well, because there is no solid backup point. On the other hand, Odom just pushes the team farther ahead. Close match, but Rajon comes up in the end.

Winner: Slight Boston

Home Court Advantage/Fans

Los Angeles fans have been used to the Lakers winning, so even though they’ll be rooting pretty hard, they won’t be as load as the Celtics fans, because they haven’t got a tile since ‘87.

Winner: Boston

Overall Pick

This will be one of the most competitive Finals series in recent memory, but I see Boston winning Game 7, at home, and the series, mostly because of the big three plus Rajon will be playing their hearts out.

Boston in Seven.

FUKUDOME! The Sports Kid’s Trip to Wrigley

bleacherproducts2The crack of the bat… The instant cheers… The giddy face on the batter… The chants from the crowd…

What in the world of sports is better than a Home Run? Especially when its one of the fan-favorites at Wrigley Field, like in the case I witnessed, who was none other than…

FU-KU-DO-ME!

Yes, on Saturday the Tenth of May of the Year of 2008, I had the pleasure of going to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley field, and while I was there, I had the time of my life.

Thankfully I took notes during the game and kept score, so this article was made much easier, and for the first time ever, this article will be in diary format. Let’s hope it works!

10:33 AM

I am just heading out from my hotel to the game now… GO CUBS!

10:56 AM

WHAT??? THEY REROUTED THE SUBWAY FOR CONSTRUCTION??? WHO’S IDEA WAS THIS??? rawr.

11:04 AM

Looks like for about 15 minutes we are going to have to be in a bus to get to the nearest Subway system THAT WORKS….

11:15 AM

So finally we got on the brown-line subway train… AND WHAT’S THAT ON THE WALLS OF THE SUBWAY? WHITE SOX ADVERTISING? Is this bad karma heading in to the game or what?

11:32 AM

We arrive on stop early to Wrigley, because we don’t want to mess with changing subway cars and all the crowds, and we get some good exercise in the process, which is good because we’ll be sitting for about three to four hours.

11:48 AM

Do you ever get that feeling whenever you go to your favorite team’s stadium, and you just feel… well… happy? Definently getting that right now. And I’m Lovin’ It.

11:52 AM

Stopping at a souvineer stand right now, and just got one of those Fukudome headbands for ten bucks (which we later find to be a rip-off, as they’re selling them closer to Wrigley for 5), which I imediantly put on. Also at by the souvineer is a Fukudome jersey, and after much begging and pleading from my mom, I put it on. Sweet!

12:00 PM

It’s officialy PM now, and we’re officialy at Wrigley. Every time I go there, three letters: W-O-W. Can you tell I love this place?

12:38 PM

Finally, my Uncle Donald shows up, and since we sit in the bleachers, there aren’t any assigned seats, so he lays down the game plan once we go inside. “Okay, do you guys want to sit behind Fukudome in right?” (collective nodding, and a few “Yeah!”s.) “Then right when we get in,

12:45 PM

After much excited chattering among other fans, the gates finally open and
